In addition to the federal effort, the Motor Vehicle Owners Right to Repair Act legislation is currently being considered in two states, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
New Jersey
The New Jersey Assembly passed right to repair legislation (A-803) on October 27th, 2008 by an overwhelming 49-22 vote. The legislation has now moved to the New Jersey Senate and is pending in the Senate Commerce Committee. Additional information on the New Jersey legislation and how you can support this effort can be found at

Massachusetts
The Motor Vehicle Owners Right to Repair Act was introduced in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on January 8th in the House by Rep. Garrett Bradley and in the Senate on January 14th by Senator Stephen Buonicaonti. The 2009 legislation builds on the momentum gained last year when the bill was passed by the Joint Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee. While the bill was placed on the House agenda, it failed to obtain any vote due to budget issues that dominated the final days of the session.
